Alex Burbidge "Animal Transformations" at Moab Art Works
Local painter and sculptor Alex Burbidge's new exhibit of paintings "Animal Transformations" opens at Moab Art Works this weekend. Alex, who studied in the University of Utah's Fine Art program in the 1990s now makes Moab his home with Julia and their son Theo.

"It's a pleasure to welcome Alex back to the gallery" said Brian Parkin of Moab Art Works. "Alex was our first featured artist when we opened in November 2006 and his new exhibition of colorful paintings based on animal shapes will be appealing to viewers of all ages."

"Animal Transformations is the process of losing drawings within a painting" said Alex Burbidge. "I begin with a simple outline drawing like a fish, overlay with another fish, and another until there is a web of fish outlines. Then I add different colors along the contours of the fish outlines. Eventually the painting emerges brightly transformed from the initial fish sketches into an abstract color design."

Paintings by Alex Burbidge "Animal Transformations" opens at Moab Art Works gallery, 35 North Main Street, Moab on Saturday May 10th. An artist's reception will take place between 6pm and 9pm. The exhibition is free, open to all and runs through June 7th. For more details call (435) 259 3010 or visit www.moabartworks.com.
