Part owner (with
photographer Brian
Parkin) of a
privately funded fine arts and photography gallery in Moab, UT. Moab Art
Works is a
venue for
local and visiting artists to display and sell their work. The business
also provides photographic services such as fine art reproduction work,
scanning, giclee printing, color positive and B/W film development.
Last year I set up from scratch a custom E6 (color slide) and
black-and-white laboratory to process film for photographic clients and
artists in the Moab area. I also act as our systems and web
administrator, currently managing the domains http://www.moabartworks.com and http://www.brianparkin.com
Siebel
Systems, Inc. San Mateo, CA. 2003 - 2004
Group
Director, Engineering
Managed software
development of
applications that helped to automate Siebel development, testing and
release processes, with an organization of ~25 software engineers based
in the US and Ireland. The products developed in my area of
responsibility included:
- Siebel Test
Automation, an application developed in C++ for automated testing of
Siebel CRM software by customers and QA groups. Worked closely with
teams at Mercury Interactive’s development organization in
Israel and product management in the US to integrate with Mercury
QuickTest Pro.
- The Siebel
Localization Production System and other custom applications supporting
the globalization and translation of Siebel CRM applications into 14
languages.

operations. Performed gap analysis and cost assessment comparison of

- Riffage.com,
Palo

Responsible for all aspects of production, engineering, and technical
operation of the Riffage.com web site and its associated self-service
applications. The web site enabled remote, automated upload, download,
search and streaming of music by fans, artists and bands. Managed 20+
technical and production staff; hired external consultants and oversaw
both internal and out-source development partnerships.

eToys.com (Santa Monica, CA) and FirstLook.com (Pasadena, CA) - I
served at both as interim VP Engineering during 1999.
CNET
(and
spin-off BuyDirect.com) San Francisco, CA. 1997 - 1998
- VP,
Technology Development, BuyDirect.com. I was responsible for
development of web applications and also oversaw site technical
operations for the software e-commerce vendor BuyDirect.com. Recruited
and managed a team of 12 (F/T and contract) programmers and re-built
the existing web site during the spin-off and transition of BuyDirect
as a separate commercial entity from CNET. We used Vignette
and Sybase for the site, plus Open Market and CyberSource for the
e-commerce engine and fraud detection.
- Director,
CNET Content Technology,
I managed software development of the Computers.com consumer hardware
information site; using Prism (a pre-cursor to Vignette’s
StoryServer) and Sybase for the back end. Maintenance and editorial
applications built in Java were a major component of the site
infrastructure.
Oracle
Corporation, Redwood Shores CA. 1989 - 1997
- As Product
Director for Oracle Financials, I was responsible for the
engineering and product development of Oracle Receivables and Oracle
Revenue Accounting. Led a group consisting of 30 development engineers,
product managers, QA and maintenance engineers. Collaborated with
Oracle's international and global development teams to localize
accounting applications for markets in Asia, Europe and South America.
- As Group
Manager for Oracle Assets, managed the product
development team of around 10 programmers. Recruited new team members,
tracked project plans using MS Project, and designed new accounting
features. Worked with Oracle Japan to provide new depreciation and tax
features used by companies implementing Oracle Financials in Japan.
- As Senior
Applications Engineer,
designed and coded programs for several accounting and finance
applications. Developed system test plans and regression test suites.
- Transferred
to the US
in 1993 from Oracle UK, where I designed and built financial software
for UK local government and education authorities. I also taught Oracle
training classes to customers including SQL, Oracle Forms, Oracle
Reports, and database administration.
