"The BIG Picture

Schaefer Shown in January 2007 Memories of the 1980s will come back to viewers who see John Schaefer’s photographs in Moab Art Works latest exhibit which opened January 12th. Schaefer attended the Democratic and Republican Presidential Conventions of 1984 and documented them using 35mm Polaroid transparency film. Later he made prints using the super-large Polaroid camera at the Museum of Fine Art in Boston. "I am excited to get the opportunity to show these photographs to a local audience" said Brian Parkin of Moab Art Works. "Schaefer’s images draw the viewers’ attention to the iconography used by both major political parties.To see the pictures after twenty years with the knowledge of all that has happened since then in the country and the wider world is most interesting." John Schaefer grew up in New York and now lives in Salt Lake City. He is the director and co-founder of the Children’s Media Workshop and is particularly interested in how mass media is integrated into people’s lives. John has photographed the Sundance Film Festival for the past 25 years and will be there again this year. He is a regular presenter at the Moab Photo Symposium and will be making a return appearance at this year’s event in May. | |
